You Need to Know

We have partnered with the North East London Cancer Alliance to raise awareness that bleeding after the menopause is not normal.

You Need to Know is a campaign with a difference, we have been working with community groups to run educational events with local Black and south Asian women to raise awareness of womb cancer and empower them to get any abnormal vaginal bleeding checked.

The main symptom of womb cancer is bleeding after the menopause. It’s unlikely to be anything serious, but the earlier it is found, the more likely successful treatment is.

In North East London in 2018, Black and Asian women were proportionally more likely to be diagnosed with womb cancer at stage 4 (late) rather than at stage 1 (early). That is why the ‘You Need to Know’ campaign is spreading the word about the symptoms of womb cancer, so that you can recognise them early and get checked straight away.

Educational events

Through 2023 and the start of 2024, we held educational events at a number of venues across North East London. The hour-long talks provided information on the menopause, gynaecological health, risk factors and symptoms of womb cancer and the process involved to investigate any symptoms.

Understanding symptoms can talk to daughter, one has heavy bleeding, happy to know all information, can talk to the carer, explain in detail about cancer.
It makes me more aware of what is happening in my body.
