Womb cancer surveillance in women with Lynch syndrome.
Professor Martin Widschwendter and his team are planning a large UK-wide clinical trial to improve womb cancer surveillance for women with Lynch syndrome.
Lynch syndrome is an inherited gene alteration that increases the risk of certain cancers, including bowel, womb and ovarian cancer (among others).
This study is part of a long-running series of research from the team (called FORECEE or 4C), supported by Eve, looking into one screening test to help predict the risk of four key cancers- breast, womb, ovarian and cervical. The test they developed is being studied for its potential to predict the risk of womb cancer, and how this may help women and people with a womb with lynch syndrome monitor their risk.
Before the trial, the team first need to gather key information on the best ways for women to collect self-samples. They plan to look at how the menstrual cycle affects the quality of samples for detecting womb cancer.
This information will help them design the clinical trial in the best way possible.
