Cervical screening tests help prevent cervical cancer from developing. This is because they detect high-risk human papilloma virus (HPV), the virus which causes nearly all cervical cancers. If HPV is present it looks for any cell changes on the cervix which if left untreated, could potentially develop into cervical cancer in the future.
Here we have more information on cervical screening and tips for making the appointment easier.
