Ovarian cancer is the fifth most common cause of cancer death in women
Every year in the UK over 7,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer and around 4,200 will die – ovarian cancer accounts for more UK deaths than all the other gynaecological cancers put together.
The Eve Appeal is committed to raising vital awareness and changing these statistics. We know that early diagnosis can make a huge difference. The current five-year survival rate for ovarian cancer is 43%, but if diagnosed at an earlier stage women have up to a 90% chance of surviving for five years or more.
Lorraine Wareing is a regular supporters of Make Time for Tea after her sister, Linda Wood, told her about The Eve Appeal: “Our mum had ovarian cancer and passed away in 2003 and we were totally devastated. Holding a tea party in March 2014 was the first time I had ‘celebrated’ her life and done something in her honour and it was quite an emotional day. The table was overflowing with cakes and in the center was a bunch of Freesias, mum’s favourite flower, and a beautiful photograph of her. As it was such a success (we raised over £500) I couldn’t wait to repeat it again the next year!”
“It is such a relaxing and easy event to organise – lots of cake and the kettle was constantly on!! I strongly urge you to hold your own event. It is perfect for a girly chat and an opportunity to indulge in lots of naughtiness. It is also a chance to talk about The Eve Appeal and help raise awareness of ovarian cancer. Go on – give it a go! My friends can’t wait for next year’s tea party.” Lorraine raised an amazing £500 at her tea party in 2015.
Every penny raised from your tea party will help to make a difference to our life-saving research, you can help advance our medical research by pouring tea, baking cakes and enjoying the company of friends and family.
