Join #TeamEve as we Go Red and trek 25km through the stunning Cotswolds to mark the end of Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month.
Join us for the latest of our annual charity treks to raise money for our life-saving cancer prevention work. This year we will be doing one of the most picturesque Cotswold walks, trekking 25km through the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, taking in charming villages, stunning countryside and breathtaking views at every step.
The Eve Appeal’s CEO Athena Lamnisos says: “The Go Red Trek is a charity hike that’s both a stretch and a joy. Walking through glorious countryside, sharing stories and raising life-saving funds. It’s a brilliant event to take part in with friends, family and colleagues and also brilliant if you come along on your own. Raising sponsorship when you’re taking on a 25km challenge with a fair few hills along the way is great fun too!”
Our 6th sponsored walk takes place on Saturday 28th September and will bring together our supporters, employees, people who have had cancer and their families, and anyone who likes to take on a new challenge and raise money in the process. Our specialist gynaecological cancer nurse Tracie Miles, who runs our confidential free helpline, will also be taking part this year, so it’s the perfect chance to walk and talk, should you wish, but we emphasise that this charity trek is for everyone who fancies it.
What route does the Cotswolds walk take?
We will meet in the early morning on Saturday 28th in Bourton-on-the-Water, also known as “Venice of the Cotswolds” – a truly beautiful location to start our challenge! Here you will register, receive your t-shirt and have an event briefing.
The trek then heads out onto the Monarch’s Way where we will walk alongside the River Windrush, passing Clapton-on-the-Hill and Farmington before reaching Northleach.
After passing through Northleach, we join the Macmillan Way passing through the small villages of Hampnett and Turkdean, continuing our trek to the Cold Aston. The final leg of our charity hike will join the Gloucestershire Way before moving on to the Windrush Way and then heading back in to Bourton-on-the-Water for a triumphant finish, where you can enjoy some fizz and a hot snack.
How much does the Go Red charity trek cost?
Make every mile count and help to protect the 21,000 women who are diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer every year. Register yourself today or sign up as a team* – we would love to have you on board!

Helen White, who did the charity hike last year, says: “I loved taking part in the Go Red Trek last year, especially as it marked a personal milestone for me, one year on from treatment for endometrial cancer. The day of the trek was brilliant: the sun shone, the scenery was stunning and I got to meet lots of inspirational people along the way including researchers whose work is helping more women to survive gynae cancers. Doing the Go Red Trek is a great way of promoting awareness of these cancers, as well as raising money to fund vital research, which is why I’ve signed up again this year!”
How long will it take to complete this charity trek?
We estimate that most people will finish in around 7 – 8 hours. We will let you what time registration will be nearer to the time. The trek will be challenging but it isn’t tooooo tough – it is rated 1 out of 3 by Global Adventure Challenges, the company organising the trek, who are extremely experienced in running this kind of event. It is great fun as it brings our supporters together who are unlikely to meet at any other point, it is a great way to share stories while enjoying the beautiful countryside. The Global Adventure Challenges team route mark or guide the Cotswold walk, provide all the refreshments and food for the day (including two water stops, lunch and food with fizz at the end) and have great knowledge about these type of challenges for anyone who wants to find out more.
If you can’t make this sponsored walk but would like to support the event you can donate to our specialist nurse, Tracie’s, efforts. Every penny you donate to Tracie will help us keep funding research, raising awareness and keep our Ask Eve line open to stop gynae cancers before they start!
If you have any questions please contact our Community and Events Fundraising Manager Rosa Frisso, who is also doing the sponsored walk, either by emailing email@example.com or by calling 020 7605 0103.

Can I join as an individual or do I need to sign up as a team?
You are more than welcome to sign up as an individual, the trek is a great opportunity to meet and chat with fellow Eve Supporters. If you are joining as a team we’d recommend that you register individually onto this challenge – it is easy and simple to do just click here.
If we have signed up as a group can we combine our sponsorship targets?
Everyone will have an individual fundraising target but you are more than welcome to fundraise as a group, so if there are 3 of you in a team you can set up one JustGiving page which would have an overall target of £900.
What is the difference between Minimum Sponsorship and Self-Funding?
On the Minimum Sponsorship Option, you will pay a £30 registration fee to Global Adventure Challenges and then raise a sponsorship target of £300. 60% of this target, £180, must be raised 8 weeks before the event, 2nd August 2019. The remaining 40%, £120, is to be raised no later than 6 weeks after the challenge, 8th November 2019.
On the Self-Funding Option, you will pay to cover the cost of this challenge up-front to Global Adventure Challenges along with the registration fee. This means you will have no sponsorship target as we are not invoiced for your place – so you can just raise as much as you can! Please note, you cannot use any of your fundraising to cover the cost of your Self-Funding place otherwise you would need to opt for the Minimum Sponsorship option.
What if I am having difficulties raising the sponsorship target?
We are here to support you throughout your fundraising for this incredible challenge so if you are having any problems fundraising or if you have any queries please do get in touch – we would be happy to help. You can either email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 020 7605 0100.
Why is there a sponsorship target and / or fee to Global Adventure Challenges?
In order to run this fantastic challenge, we work alongside Global Adventure Challenges and pay a cost per participant for those on the minimum sponsorship route. The cost varies on the number of participants we have taking part and covers the logistics of the event, including the route design, refreshments and food on the day, members of staff who will be first aid qualified as well as support vehicles for anyone who falls ill or gets injured during the trek.
We rely on the support of Global Adventure Challenges in order to be able to run such a successful event year on year that our supporters enjoy.
How will my sponsorship help The Eve Appeal?
With your support you will help us to raise funds towards our ground-breaking research which is focused on developing effective methods of risk prediction, early detection and screening as well as our other work. We know that early diagnosis is key to saving women’s lives. You will also help us to raise much-needed awareness of the five gynaecological cancers, breaking down the taboos that surround these cancers, encouraging straight talking and open conversations about gynae health and ensuring that both women and men recognise and understand the key signs and symptoms.
If you are worried about a gynae health issue you can contact Ask Eve, our gynaecological cancer information service, either by calling 0808 802 0019 or by emailing email@example.com.
