Also at the party was Jo Brand, whose letters to Britain’s greatest artists asking them to donate resulted in the 13 lots from the likes of Grayson Perry, Anish Kapoor, Julian Opie and Howard Hodgkin. At the event, Jo spoke about the importance of supporting The Eve Appeal, encouraged guests to bid and told a very rude joke.
Eve’s CEO Athena Lamnisos said, “Don’t donate to us out of fear, donate out of hope and out of shared ambition that we can stop cancer before it starts.”
Thanks to Bonhams for hosting, our wonderful curator Dominic Hourd and to all the guests, including musician Joan Armatrading, comedian Helen Lederer, jazz singer Natalie Rushdie, actor Larry Lamb and Love Island’s Megan Barton Hanson.
Sales for the art reached £22,000 on the day. The Eve Appeal is also separately selling an edition of 75 prints by Sir Peter Blake and running an online auction of exclusive cultural experiences through Givergy at www.givergy.com/charity/the-eve-appeal
Carolin von Massenbach, Department Director of Prints and Multiples, said after the auction, “Bonhams is so thrilled to have had the opportunity to work alongside The Eve Appeal. By auctioning an exclusive selection of prints and multiples donated by important Contemporary artists, we are delighted to have helped raise money for this extremely worthy cause.
“This sale was an especially exciting chance to bid not only towards owning fantastic works of art, but also to support a future where fewer women develop gynaecological cancers, and more women survive them.”
