#sipandsew: I’m not a self-confessed cocktail dress kinda gal

The Cocktail Hour blogger tour returns, and sees 20 designs chosen from McCall’s Vogue Patterns range for a new social sew-along; encouraging all those sewing enthusiasts-cum-bloggers (and we know you’re all out there!) to start creating their masterpieces; all in the name of charity! We’re very fortunate that through our partnership, McCall will be making a donation for every pattern sold to help protect women of today, and women of the future against gynaecological cancers.

Fresh off the machine…

Portia Lawrie, whose blog Makery focuses on encouraging her band of followers to get making a range of products through step by step tutorials, inspirational ideas and tips and techniques – has recently blogged about her experience of taking on McCall Pattern’s campaign #sipandsew

As a result, Portia challenged herself as ‘not being a cocktail dress kinda gal, (and actually not at ease in any kind of “formal/dressy” attire), this one really pushed me out of my comfort zone’ but not wanting to shy away she opted for a jumpsuit pattern (Vogue 9160).

She mentions that she has been admiring the jumpsuit trend from afar since it emerged – which was her inspiration for this design – as she confesses ‘I’ve steered clear as I know it won’t suit me…one piece garments rarely do’ – so had always intended on adapting in into a two piece with the appearance of a jumpsuit.

If this has peaked your interest, and want to know how Portia created this particular fashion item, find out more via her blog post dedicated to the campaign #sipandsew
