Minn Makes His Way

Hayley, with her family and friends are collectively covering a 150 miles in memory of her brother David. Read her blog about their Minn Makes His Way challenge and how you can get involved.

I lost my brother, David Minn, in January 2018, due to a tragic hiking accident in Ushuaia, Argentina, while he was traveling South America.

He was the kindest, most loving person you could ever meet – and he always had a huge smile on his face that lit up a room, and the amount of love people had (or have) for him was shown last year when my family and I held a bike ride in his memory to raise money for The Eve Appeal, and in total have raised over £20,000.

We’d have loved to do another bike ride for The Eve Appeal this year, but as we’re in lockdown, we’re unable to. However, we’ve come up with a way of getting anyone, anywhere around the world to help us cycle, run or walk for The Eve Appeal instead.

Between the 6th and 13th July, we’re planning on collectively traveling the distance from Borehamwood (where David lived) and Sheffield (where he went to uni and achieved a masters in Aerospace Engineering), which Is 153.7 miles.

The reason we’ve chosen The Eve Appeal is that my dad and I are both carriers of the BRCA1 mutation gene, which means I’m more likely to get ovarian cancer and breast cancer than the average person – although I had a double mastectomy last year to prevent the latter.

Therefore, with The Eve Appeal being the UK’s only charity for research into the five gynaecological cancers, it only seemed fitting, and I am sure that David would have supported our efforts for this very important initiative. I’ve been told by various friends he had that he was very proud of me being so open about my surgery.

All you have to do to get involved is join the Minn Makes His Way Strava club, walk, cycle or run any distance you want and post it to the club between 6th and 13th July, to track your miles and share pictures.

Then donate to our JustGiving page or text David to 70085 to donate £10*, David15 for £15 and David20 for £20 to Eve Appeal

*Texts cost £10 plus one standard rate message and you’ll be opting-in to hear more about The Eve Appeal’s work and fundraising via telephone and SMS. If you’d like to give £10 but do not wish to receive marketing communications, text DAVIDNOINFO to 70085.
